Attractions for Weekend Getaways from Pittsburgh

With so much to see and do in the Poconos, it can be hard to narrow down a list. We have great shopping, incredible theaters, outdoor recreation, and more. But this list of attractions will focus specifically on things to see!

1. Amazing Waterfalls

Our lush, mountainous region provides a perfect habitat for lots of beautiful waterfalls. If the sound of rushing, bubbling water helps you wash your troubles away, you’ll want to visit these incredible Poconos waterfalls: Bushkill Falls, Raymondskill Falls, Dingmans Falls, and Shohola Falls. Bonus: you’ll find wonderful hiking in these areas as well.

2. The Historic Roebling Bridge

The Roebling Bridge in PA is a one-lane historic suspension bridge that connects Minisink Ford, NY, and Lackawaxen, PA. You can choose to drive or walk over the bridge, with a gorgeous view of the Delaware River. The walking path along the D&H Towpath Trail offers views of the river and nesting eagles! Parking lots on either side of the bridge make it simple to take a stroll.

3. The Steamtown National Historic Site

Located in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, the Steamtown National Historic Site is situated inside a working railroad yard. It offers more than 60 acres of world-class museums and facilities that showcase the history of steam railroading. Visitors can explore the museum complex and various Steamtown locomotives.

4. The Victorian Town of Milford

Milford’s positioning above the Delaware river with streams that cascade around the town toward the river. This creates some of the most beautiful waterfalls you’ll ever see, and it adds to the natural beauty of the town. In the 1800s, the classic architecture and clean air drew the ultra-rich to Milford, a booming tourism that slacked off after WWII. Today Milford once again is sought-after destination for those looking for an escape surrounded by greenery and a quaint environment.

5. The Zane Grey Museum

Famous Western novelist Zane Grey and his wife Dolly owned a farmhouse overlooking the Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers. Grey, a prolific author, loved fishing as well. After Zane Grey’s death, Dolly sold the house to the daughter of a long-time friend, who eventually began and operated the Zane Grey Museum.

Now owned by the National Park Service, the Zane Grey Museum remains a favorite stop for lovers of history as well as fans of Zane Grey’s books.

The lovely house and grounds are also a great place to explore the beautiful scenery.
