The Susquehanna Brewing Company
If “craft beer” wasn’t enough to sell you on a trip to the Susquehanna Brewing Company, let us fill you in on the top four reasons you need to visit! We promise you won’t regret it.
1. The Beers
Of course, “the beers” are the number one reason to go to any brewery. But the beers at the Susquehanna Brewing Company are more than exceptional. In fact, the seasonal Shady Spot Lemon Shandy beer is officially the best in the world. It won the gold medal in the fruit beer category at the World Beer Cup, one of the biggest international competitions. Some of their other excellent seasonal beers are: Sunny Spot Grapefruit Shandy, Southern Rye IPA, Toboggan Chocolate Doppelbock, Pumpkin Ale, and Oktoberfest. We are also big fans of the Hopcellerator IPA, as well as the Goldencold Lager. They even have a breakfast beer … that’s right, breakfast! You’ve got to give it a try!
2. Tours and Tastings
We aren’t just blowing steam about the excellent free tours at Susquehanna Brewing Company: they’re on the list of USA Today’s 10 Best Brewery Tours. These casual and informative tours are also very generous with the free samples! On the tour, they’ll explain the processes they chose to make the beers. It’s very interesting! And, since they brew some seasonal beers, it’s likely that there will be something new to sample every time you visit. The tours start at 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. If you have a large group, call ahead. They might work out a special time just for you and your group!
The tasting room is a relatively new addition to the Susquehanna Brewing Company. It’s an excellent place to try some samples or just have a pint of your favorite. The tasting room is open Thursday – Sunday afternoons and evenings. Check their website for specific times. They also have a small store where you can purchase mixed cases of beer, growlers, and branded merchandise.
3. Environmentally Friendly
The folks at the Susquehanna Brewing Company are remarkably eco-conscious for a small brewery. They use a steam boiler with an efficient design, and they also filter the beer without using diatomaceous earth, which would create waste. Even their packaging process uses less energy! So you can enjoy your beer without worrying about the earth!
4. Commitment to Family
In addition to being a family-run business themselves, Susquehanna Brewing Company also makes a concerted effort to support other family-run businesses throughout their process, from machinery to customer support. As a family-run business ourselves, we appreciate the effort they make in this area!
