4 of the Best Things to Do at Promised Land State Park

Promised Land State Park is surrounded by Pennsylvania’s Delaware State Forest. In it, visitors can enjoy sightseeing, wildlife viewing, watersports, and much more. Even better, this outdoor paradise just a 20-minute drive from the luxe French Manor Inn & Spa! Here are some of our favorite things to do at Promised Land State Park.

1. On the Trails: Promised Land State Park Hiking, Biking, and Horseback Riding

With a 50-mile scenic trail system and 6.5 miles of roads, Promised Land State Park is one of the best places to enjoy Poconos hiking and biking. All of the walking trails are marked with vertical blue blazes. There are designated trails for ATV riding and mountain biking. Hikers can follow Bruce Lake Road to a natural glacial lake. Cyclists can enjoy a paved path around Promised Land Lake.

While horses are not available for rent, Promised Land State Park offers designated equestrian trails for you and your horse. Horses are also allowed on all park roads. The warm summer months are a wonderful time to explore, when the mountain laurel and rhododendron bloom.

2. In the Water: Promised Land State Park Fishing, Swimming, and Boating

The park’s 422-acre Promised Land Lake and the smaller Lower Lake are wonderful places for water activities. They are popular spots for fishing and ice fishing in the winter. You can catch a variety of species, including large and smallmouth bass, catfish, trout, and more.

Guests can enjoy an afternoon of boating, kayaking, or paddle boating at Promised Land State Park. Rentals are available at the Boat Concession on the beach. Consider making reservations if you plan to rent a boat!

For a refreshing lake swim, visit the two sand beaches. The main beach is in the Day-Use Picnic area (which has a playground and volleyball court as well), and the other beach is at the end of Pickerel Point. Be prepared to supervise your children well, as there is no lifeguard on duty!

3. Overnight: Campsites and Cottages

The park also has six camping areas where guests can enjoy a night under the stars. The modern campsites offer amenities like warm showers, flush toilets, electricity, and laundry facilities. Rustic facilities are also available. The campgrounds are located just steps from the park’s beaches, boat rental, and refreshment stand. They are also near the picnic area, which features a playground, volleyball court, basketball hoop, and two picnic pavilions. Rustic cabins and cottages are also available. Be sure to check out a Promised Land State Park map before planning your trip.

4. In the Winter: Skiing, Snowshoeing, and Ice Fishing

During the winter, the hiking and biking trails become cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. Snowshoes are available for loan in the park office. (If you like snowshoeing, be sure to check out the complimentary snowshoeing that we offer in the winter!) Snowmobiling is also popular on the more than twenty miles of designated, groomed trails. And, as we mentioned above, ice fishing and ice skating are available, but take to the ice at your own risk. The thickness is not monitored.
