Where to Go Ice Skating in the Poconos

Nearby State Parks

There is something special about experiencing the thrill of ice skating in the Poconos at one of the beautiful outdoor parks. However, before handing to one of these locations, it’s important to check ice thickness. None of these locations are monitored by a professional, you are skating at your own risk. You can use an auger to measure the ice thickness, ensuring that it will be safe enough for you and your family. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources states that the ice should be at least four inches thick for individual skates and at least seven inches for a small group.

If you’re staying in the area and plan on going ice skating in the Poconos, check out Gouldsboro State Park. You can park near lot four, and you’ll discover a one-acre frozen area where skating is allowed when conditions are safe. You can also try ice skating at Hickory Run State Park. This public park offers numerous winter activities aside from skating that include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Indoor Skating Rinks

If the outdoor conditions aren’t right or you’re visiting the area in the winter but still want to enjoy ice skating in the Poconos, try one of the many indoor rinks. Of course, the greatest advantage to outdoor skating is the scenery. However, indoor skating can be just as thrilling. The Toyota SportsPlex is a large, highly equipped facility perfect for the entire family. With plenty of space for all skaters, this rink also has a lot of seating for any guests who may not want to get out on the ice themselves. Seniors and children under four can hit the ice for just $4 while adult admission is still very affordable at $8.

Another option is Skytop Lodge! Their pavilion changes into an ice skating reach each winter and you can enjoy skating for a $10 rink fee ($20 if you need to rent your own skates).
