How to Spend Christmas in the Poconos

Time spent together is one of the best gifts you can give your loved ones this holiday season. There are endless ways to create lasting memories when you celebrate Christmas in the Poconos. Here are a few of our favorite holiday events:

1. Jim Thorpe’s Olde Time Christmas

Jim Thorpe’s Olde Time Christmas is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season! Bring the whole family out for train rides with Santa, caroling, live entertainment and plenty of Christmas shopping. The highlight of the event is the annual tree lighting ceremony in Josiah White Park. You can experience the magic over three weekends: December 1-3, 9-10, and 16-17.

2. Old Time Christmas Tours at Quiet Valley

Old Time Christmas Tours are a holiday tradition here in the Poconos. During the first two weekends in December, Quiet Valley offers guided lantern tours through the 19th-century farm. Enjoy a live barnyard Nativity scene, listen to the carolers, and learn about farm life in the 1820’s. Then, do your holiday shopping and warm up with hot cocoa and cookies at the gift shop. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Christmas in the Poconos!

3. Hawley Winterfest

No Christmas in the Poconos is complete without a visit to the annual Hawley Winterfest! This three-day event is great for a fun family outing or a casual date. Take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride around town and then tour all of the decorated historic homes. You can also enjoy ice-carving, delicious seasonal food, hot cocoa, arts and crafts, and endless holiday entertainment. There is even a Beer Tour and an ugly Christmas sweater party! Most of the activities are free, and the festivities run from December 8th -10th.

4. Honesdale for the Holidays

One of the best things about Christmas is the shopping! If you still need to do your holiday shopping, head over to Historic Honesdale from November 24th to 25th. You can listen to great holiday music while you browse through a wide variety of shops. There is also a Christmas tree lighting and an annual Santa Parade!

5. Santa’s Winterfest

A fantastic family-friendly event, Santa’s Winterfest is fun for all ages! Stop by Country Junction and enjoy ornament making, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa, and plenty of other exciting activities! There is also a Christmas breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. that you don’t want to miss.
