The Asa Packer Mansion Tour

About the Asa Packer Mansion

The Asa Packer Mansion was commissioned by Asa Packer, an American businessman, politician, and philanthropist, in 1861. As a pioneer of railroad expansion in the North East, Packer was one of the wealthiest people in the United States in the mid-1800s and built the mansion during the height of his wealth. Samuel Sloan was the home’s architect and, from design to construction, completed the mansion in just two years. Packer’s daughter, Mary Packer Cummings, lived in the home after her father’s death until her own passing in 1912. Since then, the home has been open to the public as a memorial to her father and his accomplishments.

Why You Should Visit

The mansion offers visitors a look at one of the best-preserved examples of Italianate architecture in the United States and a unique view of the 19th-century opulence that accompanied the industrial revolution. The home’s ornate decor, red-ribbed tin roof, central copula, and stunning facades are truly a sight to see and should not be left out of your next Pocono getaway.
